Legislation

State and federal
legislation play a major role in how consumer-owned
electric utilities in the Pacific Northwest operate.
Activities in the states, in Washington, D.C.,
before Congress and federal executive agencies
all weigh into the cost of power and transmission.
They also have an impact on policies, such as BPA
revenue requirements, repayment schedules and wholesale
rates, that affect PPC members.
Congress and Federal Legislation
For information on federal legislation and other
energy-related activities in D.C., please see the
web site of PPC's Washington, D.C., Liaison Marty
Kanner. Of particular interest are Kanner’s survey
of existing federal energy law and summary
of current energy bills in Congress.
In addition, Kanner offers a Comparison
of Major Restructuring Proposals, a matrix
that summarizes Congress' major bills with respect
to specific issues.
For more information on federal legislative activity,
please see Thomas,
the Library of Congress Internet site.
